USS Warrior completes Ship Repair and Maintenance Exercise in Hakodate

Avenger-class mine countermeasures ship USS Warrior (MCM 10) completed a Ship Repair and Maintenance Exercise (SRMX) series, Sept. 30, 2026, while conducting a scheduled port visit in Hakodate, Japan.

During the bilateral maintenance period, Warrior Sailors worked hand-in-hand with skilled local and visiting Japanese ship repair workers at Hakodate port facilities to resolve planned maintenance items in rapid succession, testing the ability of forward-deployed forces to return ships to operational readiness.

In tandem with physical repairs, the ship’s crew executed a battle damage assessment and repair table-top exercise alongside a fly-in team of specialists from Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA). The table-top training exercised the crew's engineering assessment processes and repair decision-making procedures in resolving battle damage.

“We are grateful for the hospitality that the people and city of Hakodate have shown the Warrior’s crew,” said U.S. Navy Capt. Scott Wells, commanding officer of Commander, Task Force (CTF) 77. “This successful SRMX was key to enhancing the crew’s readiness in the event of actual battle damage, and I would like to thank the training crew from NAVSEA and our Japanese counterparts in the ship repair facility for joining us for this SRMX.”

SRMX is the over-arching U.S. Pacific Fleet strategy to sustain ships forward and return them quickly to operations. By continuously exercising this capability within the region during peacetime, the U.S. Navy and its allies and partners ensure the infrastructure, logistics pathways, and technical proficiencies exist to maintain fleet readiness during times of crisis or conflict.

This exercise marks the second SRMX to be completed in Japan, following the inaugural event in Maizuru with Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Fitzgerald (DDG 62). Other iterations of the SRMX series have been successfully conducted in Australia, the Republic of the Philippines, and Singapore.

CTF-77 directs mine countermeasure assets in the clearance of sea mines to ensure free flow of commerce by sea and freedom of movement of U.S., allies, and partner nation ships and auxiliaries, in peacetime and in conflict.

U.S. 7th Fleet, the Navy’s largest forward-deployed numbered fleet, routinely interacts and operates with allies and partners in preserving a free and open Indo-Pacific.
